„LOOK AROUND”
Work made within the international sculpture symposium of Buzău, „Memory of Water”, 1st edition, 1st – 31st July 2022. Sculptor Kiryl Krokhaliou says about this work: „At the centre of the transparent mesh structure of teardrop shape there is a kinetic element driven by the wind. The whole sculpture resembles a human head with eyes that rotate, examining the surrounding space. My sculpture with its gesture offers to look back again and to explore the amazing place you find yourself in. Rediscover a seemingly familiar landscape. Examine it with a direct fresh look and pay attention to what you miss in the daily hustle and bustle of life.” Kiryl Krokhaliou was born in Minsk on 16th March 1985 and graduated from the Belarus Academy of Arts in 2011. He is a participant of national and international exhibitions, festivals, symposia in Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, Armenia, Russia, Italy, France, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, Germany, Finland, Turkey, Sweden, Iran, Egypt, Romania. Kroukhaliou Kiryl describes his artistic approach as follows: „As a sculptor I work with many materials – stone, metal, wood, snow, ice, plastic. For me, the main goal is to reveal the possibilities of each of them, to enter into a dialogue with the material. The material is my co-author. Plastic sculpture for me is an independent language that I am just learning. I often find it hard to explain verbally. What my sculptures mean – probably nothing. They are just present. For me, sculptural language is closest to the language of music (which I am also studying on my own). Melody has no verbal meaning, we can’t tell what it is about. But nevertheless it has a great impact on the listener. I try to achieve the same effect with sculptural means. The main task is to touch the material, enter into a dialogue, reveal its possibilities and make it sound.”
