THE WATER TOWER FROM CRÂNG ARCHITECT EMIL BOIANOVICI (1843 - 1911)
In 1896, during the term of office of the mayor of Nicu I. Constantinescu, one of the most visionary and efficient city officials, the first surveys were made to identify a possible source of drinking water for the city's supply and this corresponded from a sanitary point of view only to the survey from Crâng Park. As such, in 1897 the first water tower in Buzău was built, a reservoir was placed on a brick tower, according to the plans of Emil Boianovici, the city's chief architect and under the direction of engineer Grigore Poenaru. The main water supply pipe of the city was installed in the same year, the water being used to wash the streets and to water the lawns with flowers, but also to clean the meat and fish sheds. As a result, the fountains in Piaţa Dacia were dismantled and the connection to the water pipe brought from Crâng was made. The tank was served by an imported steam pump. In 1907 a second water tank was built and the pumping station was enlarged and improved.
