BUZĂU COURT ARCHITECT PETRE ANTONESCU (1873 – 1965)
The establishment of the first court in Buzău County was recorded on 15th August 1838. In 1853 the court received the title of Buzău County Court and functioned with only one section until 1911, when it expanded its activity with the second section. The current building of Buzău Court, called the Palace of Justice, was built between 1909 and 1912, according to the plans of the architect Petre Antonescu. He was born on 29th June 1873 in Râmnicu Sărat and died on 22nd April 1965 in Bucharest. He studied architecture in Paris and was one of the greatest Romanian architects, who marked this field by promoting a neo-Romanian architectural style. In 1945 he became a full member of the Romanian Academy. He is the author of monumental public buildings and special residences, giving a unique interpretation to the forms and elements of old Romanian architecture. Among his most representative works are the building of Bucharest City Hall (1910), the former building of the Administrative Palace of Craiova (1913), the Investment Bank of Bucharest (1923), the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest (1935). He is also the author of the Arc de Triumf project in Bucharest, inaugurated on 1st December 1936. He also designed the Marmorosch Blank Bank Palace, the Creţulescu Palace, the Triumf Hotel, the Oprea Soare House, the Constantin I.C. (Dinu) Brătianu House, the „Nicolae Iorga” Institute of History, all in Bucharest, the Navigation Palace of Galaţi, the Palace of Justice of Brăila, the Casino and Hotel Palace of Sinaia, the Prefecture Palace of Botoşani, which houses the current Botoşani County Museum, the Casino of Constanţa (together with Daniel Renard), the Romanian School of Rome.
