THE TEMPLE OF JEWISH COMMUNITY
The first synagogue in the city of Buzău was built in 1885, on the current Alexandru Marghiloman street, on a plot of land bought by Bercu Haim and Iancu Bercovici, from Nicolae Simion Mocanu. Not being spacious enough, it was demolished and the Jewish community purchased another plot of land nearby and in 1910 a new synagogue was built, then rebuilt in 1928. The members of the Jewish community of Buzău: made donations in 1877-1878 for the Sion health ambulance that participated in the War of Independence; they took part in the campaigns of 1913 (Second Balkan War); and 1916-1919 (War for the Nation's Union). The school of the Jewish community then became the premises for the hospital. Over time, the Jewish community in Buzău shrunk significantly. The Temple of the Jewish Community is included on the List of Historical Monuments (BZ-II-m-B-02339).
