The first public school in Buzău with teaching in Romanian, founded on 18th April 1832 by Hierodeacon Dionisie Romano, operated in this place. Dionisie Romano (29th July 1806, Sălişte, Sibiu – 18th January 1873, Buzău), was an Orthodox bishop of Buzău (1864-1873), scholar and translator, honorary member of the Romanian Academy. In 1839, when he was director of the printing house of the Buzău Diocese, he created, together with Gavriil Munteanu, a professor at the theological seminary of Buzău, the religious and moral newspaper "Vestitorul bisericesc", the first church publication in Wallachia.
