"SAINTS EMPERORS CONSTANTINE AND HELEN" ("ALL SAINTS") CHURCH – GÂRLAȘI
Gârlași Church, dedicated to "All Saints", was built by lord steward Mihai Mincu and his wife, Maria (daughter of Dumitrașcu Buzoianu, known as Minculeasa), in 1780, in an area inhabited by brick makers, on the bank of the backwater - Iazul Morilor, hence the name gârlași, in the north-eastern part of the city. The church was the metochion of Poiana Mărului Hermitage. In the earthquake of 1802 its vaults were demolished, then it was burned down by the Turks in 1806, but it was repaired by Hrisoscoleu family, owners of Gârlași estate, also considered founders of the church. The crypt with the bones of Dimitrie Hrisoscoleu is inside the place of worship. The church was again pillaged by the Turks in 1821, being also the place where they kept their horses, damaged by the earthquake of 1838, damaged and transformed again by the Turks in 1853 into a stable and then abandoned. It was closed in 1880 and restored between 1933 and 1935. Gârlași Church, currently dedicated to "Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen", is included in the List of Historical Monuments (BZ-II-m-B-02349).
