"SAINTS EMPERORS CONSTANTINE AND HELEN"
ARCHBISHOP'S CHAPEL
"Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen" Archbishop's Chapel dates back to 1841, being built in the time of Bishop Chesarie, on the place of an older one that was demolished during the earthquake of 1838. It has a trefoil-shaped plan, with a single octagonal tower on the nave, surrounded by several cells on the east and west sides. The chapel was restored in the time of Bishop Dionisie Romano (1865-1873), as it had been destroyed by fire. The painting was restored in 1882 by painter Dimitrie Teodorescu, a pupil of the school of painters of Buzău. In time, the place of worship was consolidated, the painting restored and the exterior mosaics were made, representing the Holy Apostles and the Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen. The Archbishop's Chapel has been included in the List of Historical Monuments (BZ-II- m-A-02324.02).
