"GLORY TO THE HEROES OF THE COUNTRY" MONUMENT
The sculptor Emil Pricopescu was born on the 18th of August 1939 in the commune of Certeşti, Galaţi. He graduated from the "Nicolae Grigorescu" Fine Arts Institute in Bucharest, sculpture section. From 1968 to 2003, he was a modeling and sculpture teacher at the "Margareta Sterian" Art High School in Buzău. He is a founding member of the Buzău Branch of the Union of Visual Artists (1968).
He exhibited works of sculpture in wood, stone and metal, at county and inter-county exhibitions, in the country and abroad. He participated with works at the Măgura Sculpture Camp. Between 1997 and 2001, he organized the National Sculpture Camp for art high school students, at Poiana Pinului, Buzău.
He has works in private collections in the country and abroad. He has numerous works of monumental art in the city and Buzău County.
He was awarded the National Order of Merit, in the rank of Knight, awarded by the Presidency of Romania (2000), the Diploma of Excellence in Education and the Diploma of Fidelity offered in 2002 by the Ministry of Education and Research. Also in 2002, he received the Union of Plastic Artists’ Award for sculpture at the "Ion Andreescu" Fine Arts Biennale.
He is an Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Buzău (since 2005).
