Stan Săraru was born in 1898, in Râmnicu Sărat. He graduated from the current „Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” National High School of Buzău and then from the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest. He was a lawyer at the Buzău Bar (1923-1943), deputy mayor and mayor of Buzău from November 1933 to December 1937. He was a combatant in the Second World War, in the Eastern Campaign, and was imprisoned several times in the Communist prisons of Jilava and Aiud and in the labour colonies of Castelu-Medgidia and Capu Midia. Since 1951 he has been legal adviser to the Regional People’s Council of Bucharest. As mayor of Buzău, he carried out, among other things, several building works of great importance for the city: the main food market, now called „Stan Săraru Lawyer” Central Market, the communal bath, the first sewerage project in the city centre, paving of streets in Poștă and Mihai Viteazul neighbourhoods, including their water supply, the construction of a slaughterhouse and the regeneration of Crâng park forest. He died in 1985 and he was buried in Bucharest, but his son-in-law of Germany erected a funerary monument to him after 1989 in Dumbrava Cemetery, where he buried a funerary urn.
