THE MONUMENT OF HEROES OF BUZĂU OF THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE (1877 - 1878)
Planning the construction of the Heroes' Cemetery, Lieutenant-Colonel Dumitru Vasiliu designed a "Monument of Heroes of Buzău of the War of Independence (1877-1878)", which was built and unveiled with the inauguration of the Heroes' Cemetery on 8th October 1931. However, it was completely destroyed by the Allied bombing of the city of Buzău and the military units in the area, carried out on 8th August 1944. The monument dedicated to the heroes of Buzău of the War of Independence (1877 – 1878), was rebuilt in the context of the celebration of the Centenary of the Great Union, after the historical photography of the original, discovered in the archives by Mr. Dr. Marius-Adrian Nicoară, associate member of the Academy of Romanian Scientists. Based on this documentation, the City Hall of Buzău financed its construction by Megarock S.R.L., entrepreneur Robert Ramazan. It has a surface of 4 square meters, a height of 3.5 meters, it is made of travertine, and in the upper part it is posted the "Crossing of the Danube Cross", identical to the commemorative medal of the same name. It was unveiled on 17th May 2018, the text on the monument being Redone in memory of the heroes of Buzău of the War of Independence (1877 – 1878).
