THE ROMANIAN AVIATION MONUMENT
The Romanian Aviation Monument is represented by an ICAR – used generically in aviation as a symbol of flight – thought dreamt and achieved by Romanians. The designer of the monument is the engineer Dorin Vasilescu and the builders are the engineer colonel Gheorghe Dincă and the engineer Bistreanu from Craiova Aircraft Company where the statue was made. The initiative was taken by the Romanian Association for Propaganda and History of Aeronautics – Buzău Branch, and the funding came from the Air Force General Staff. The unveiling of the Romanian Aviation Monument in Buzău took place on 17th June 2000, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Aurel Vlaicu’s first flight.
