THE MONUMENT DEDICATED TO THE ANTI-COMMUNIST FIGHTERS AND PEOPLE OF BUZĂU KILLED IN THE COMMUNIST NIGHT
A monument dedicated to the memory of the former political prisoners of Buzău, who were killed or who suffered in the communist extermination camps, was built in the premises of Heroes' Cemetery of Buzău, through the efforts of the local branch of the Association of Former Romanian Political Prisoners. The monument dedicated to the victims of the communist regime was erected in 2000 and it is placed at the entrance to the Heroes' Cemetery, on the right side. It consists of a semicircular pedestal, in steps, on which two crosses placed face to face rest, made of reinforced concrete, suggesting an obelisk, with a 1.5 meter pedestal, on which the two high crosses of 7.30 meters symbolically rise. Two marble plaques were placed on the front cross. The words from the Bible "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake" are inscribed on the first white marble plaque. On the second, the names of those who suffered and died in communist prisons are engraved, a total of 67, according to the list chiselled here, preceded by the inscription "People of Buzău killed in the communist night, confessors of the worthiness of the Romanian soul at the resurrection of nations. Keep their memory alive". Another inscription states that the monument was erected "In memory of the anti-communist fighters of Buzău county killed in camps, prisons, in the mountains and abroad". The monument was made by architect Carmen Magazin, Cornel Croitoru, Petre Marinescu and it was consecrated on 20th July 2000.
