THE IONIŢĂ PLOIEŞTEANUL INN
The building was originally intended as an inn, being part of the specific architecture of a fair town.
In this house, on the 5th of June 1883, the actor, playwright, prose writer and memoirist George Ciprian from Buzău was born, son of a baker, originally from Cyprus. He graduated from the "Gheorghe Lazăr" High School in Bucharest, where he was a colleague of Vasile Voiculescu and Dem. Demetrescu-Buzău (Urmuz). At the Bucharest Conservatory, he attended acting courses with Constantin Nottara. He was an employee of the National Theaters in Craiova and Bucharest.
George Ciprian acted in several plays (some written by him) on the stage of the "Moldavia" Theater in Buzău. He is the author of the plays „Omul cu mârțoaga” - "The man with the horse" (1927 - presented in the country, but also the first play by a Romanian playwright presented abroad), „Capul de răţoi” - "The duck’s head" (1938), "Nae Niculae" (1928), „Ioachim-prietenul poporului” - " Joachim-the friend of the people" (1947), „Un lup mâncat de oaie” - "A wolf eaten by a sheep" (1947) and several volumes of memoirs.
In 1995, the "George Ciprian" Theater was established in Buzău, carrying on the name of the great actor and playwright from Buzău.
The "Ioniţă Ploieşteanul" Inn is included on the List of Historical Monuments (BZ-II-m-B-02338).
