“Ghenadie the Bishop” Diocesan Library

"GHENADIE THE BISHOP" DIOCESAN LIBRARY "Ghenadie the Bishop" Diocesan Library holds one of the most valuable book collections in Buzău County, having been founded by Bishop Ghenadie Niculescu (1923-1942), after his investiture on the thrown as Bishop of Buzău in 1923. The first collection of old books in Buzău was researched in 1843 by Nicolae Bălcescu, the great scholar and revolutionary. The Diocese of Buzău counts among its primates a number of scholar bishops with a rich work in the field (ecclesiastical writings, translations, prints): Luca, Mitrofan, Damaschin, Constandie, Chesarie, Filotei, Dionisie Romano, Antim Anghelescu, Antonie Plămădeală.
