"HEROES OF THE AIR" HISTORICAL PHOTO GALLERY Aviation and parachuting in our country have risen for over a century on the wings stretched to the sky by the graduates of the two Buzău military schools of courage. Through these elite institutions, the national and international prestige of our city has grown permanently. The current exhibition tries to tell to the younger generation the living, educational story of the sacrifice and dedication of generations of aviators. Equally, the exhibition is an occasion for the people of Buzău to express their gratitude towards the heroes of these elite weapons, who fought successfully in the Second Balkan War (1913), in the War of National Integration (1916 - 1919), who were aces of records of height, speed, distance, and duration, and of the great interwar air raids, towards the daredevils of low-altitude acrobatics, the fearless who fought with great professionalism and patriotism against the world's main air forces in the War of National Reunification (1941 - 1945), and towards the the aviators and paratroopers of today, who honor the Romanian people in internal missions and those executed by NATO. Erected by the Buzău City Hall, it was inaugurated on the 15th of June 2024 in the presence of the Prime Minister Ion Marcel Ciolacu, the Mayor Constantin Toma, numerous civil and military personalities and a large audience. Documentation and historical research was carried out by the aviator commander (r.) Dr. Marius – Adrian Nicoară. An important contribution to the completion of the work was made by the following gentlemen: aviator commander (r.) Dr. Alfred Vasilescu, colonel (r.) Dr. Mircea Tanase, captain commander Daniel Stan. The photos are taken from the photo archives of the Halls of Tradition of: Air Force Training and Training Base; Military School of Military Foremen and Non-Commissioned Officers of the Air Force, both institutions in Ziliştea - Boboc, Buzău, and from the Museum of the Parachute Troops Buzău.
