FORMER POWER PLANT
In 1925, Buzău City Hall contracted a loan from the County Credit, for the construction of a power plant, which would produce and distribute electricity for public institutions and individuals in the city. The supply of possible electric tram lines was also considered. The construction of the factory began in 1926 and it was completed in 1928, on the edge of Crâng Forest, near the army repair shop (bakery). The construction of the plant and the electrification works of the city were done by „Reşița” Company. Societatea Comunală de Electricitate of Buzău had Dinam type generators installed and in the following period the main public institutions, some of the educational institutions were connected to the electricity supply network and the main streets of the city were illuminated. In 1952, the electrical plant ceased its activity, Buzău being connected to the regional network, then, in 1959, to the national energy system. The building of the former power plant, near the headquarters of Societatea Electrica of Buzău, on Mareşal Averescu Boulevard, near Gloria stadium, has a particularly beautiful architecture and it is in a good state of preservation.
