„DUALITY”
Work made within the international sculpture symposium of Buzău, „Memory of Water”, 1st edition, 1st – 31st July 2022. This sculpture by Andrej Mitevski highlights the duality in water and the possibility of changing aggregate forms and states, as well as the magic of carrying vibrations – information (in order to have its own memory). These attributes that many people try to explain, yet remained a secret of power and possibilities, led the author to create a form of this sculpture on which only on one side we can clearly see what is happening, the other side is not visible. So, in a way, the artist emphasizes that water has many secrets that we are not yet aware of. Andrej Mitevski was born on 31st October 1976 in Macedonia. He finished the art school in 1995 and the Academy of Fine Arts in 1999 in Skopje, but his real knowledge of working with large stones was acquired in symposiums. Italy was the country where he made his first large sculptures. This was also an interesting experience because he worked directly into a rock in the mountains and it will stay there forever. Andrej says that „there is a kind of attraction when you work with rocks, especially since they have been made in nature for millions of years, so we carve them with respect and gratitude that they exist, so we can put our thoughts, ideas and emotions into them. It’s a kind of noble feeling that is mutual, a connection to the block of stone that is personal and intimate. It’s like telling your secrets to your best friend. Everything about my work and creation is about the duality of life and so I like to see the material, the marble, as a table, but the empty space is active and meaningful. So I play a game with light and space, so I can tell the story that everything in nature has a double side or an opposite side.”
