BUZĂU MILITARY POLYCLINIC DISPENSARY
After the Union of 1859, through the reforms of Alexandru Ioan Cuza and then of King Carol I, in view of the outbreak of the War of Independence, in more and more areas of the country, the question of establishing permanent or temporary military medical institutions arose.
In Buzău, a provisional military hospital was established in the houses owned by Eftihia Gherman (with 7 rooms and 2 entrances), the mother-in-law of Major Alexandru C. Robescu, the owner of the Gârlaşi estate. It is true that its existence was short-lived, from the 1st of November 1877 until the beginning of spring in 1878.
Archive documents mention the year 1892 as the year of establishment of the divisional military hospital, a mention occasioned by the installation of the 5th Infantry Division in Buzău. The hospital operated until the 1st of July 1946. By Order of the General Staff, on the 13th of December 1950, the military hospital in Buzău was returned to use, but on the 15th of August 1957, it was decided to abolish it and install a Soviet army hospital. After the Soviet troops left the country in 1958, on the 23rd of October 1973, the Ministry of National Defense approved the establishment of the Military Polyclinic in the Buzău garrison, subordinate to the Military Hospital in Focşani
After the relocation, in 1980, of the Command of the 2nd Romanian Army to Buzău, the activity and tasks of the Military Polyclinic increased. In 1982, an exchange of buildings between the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of the Interior was approved, following which the headquarters of the Buzău Military Polyclinic Dispensary, on Gării Boulevard (the current Military Restaurant in Buzău) was moved from Unirii Street to one of the premises of the Ministry of the Interior, where it currently operates. At that time, the dispensary provided medical assistance to a number of 37 military units from the garrisons of Buzău, Râmnicu Sărat, Boboc, Cislău, Unguriu and Verneşti (Mierea).
Currently, the Military Health Center provides medical assistance and periodic medical check-up services for over 4,000 military personnel and civilian personnel from the Buzău garrison.
