THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE BUZĂU GARRISON COMMAND A garrison is a unit or group of units and military establishments established in a locality or (in time of war) a fortified place, to defend it. The garrison command is the military body that oversees the preservation of military order and discipline in a locality, the correct performance of guard service at the military units in the garrison, organizes military ceremonies in the garrison, collaborates with local government bodies and public institutions in the locality, and supports associative structures of military personnel in reserve and in retirement for carrying out specific activities. The military institution was a steady and active presence on the lands of Buzău, ever since the establishment of its first modern structures. The military units that had their garrison here participated in all the major military events in which the Romanian army was engaged. The command of the Buzău garrison first functioned in a building located on Plevnei Street, corner with Libertăţii Street, near the Buzău Gendarmerie Legion. In 1960, the 2nd Romanian Army was re-established in the Bucharest garrison, and on the 5th of April 1980, its Command was deployed in the Buzău garrison. The commander of the largest unit in the garrison is also the commander of the garrison. The current building of the command of the Buzău garrison was built on the place where the building of the Institution for the Protection of the Blind used to be.
