„DR. CONSTANTIN ANGELESCU” AGRICULTURAL HIGH SCHOOL
Constantin Angelescu was born in 1869 in Craiova. He studied medicine in Paris. He worked as a surgeon at Brâncovenesc Hospital, then at Filantropia Hospital, becoming a university professor (1903) and director of the Surgery University Clinic. He married Virginia Constantinescu-Monteoru, the daughter of millionaire Grigore Monteoru of Buzău and he became the owner of Sărata Monteoru spa resort, some oil fields and real estate in Buzău area. From 1910 until the end of the interwar period, he was a deputy or senator in all legislatures. Dr. Constantin Angelescu was elected on 3rd/16th October 1918, vice-president of the National Council of Romanian Unity based in Paris, together with Vasile Lucaciu, Octavian Goga and Ioan Th. Florescu. The council, chaired by Tache Ionescu, was recognized by France and Great Britain first, then by Italy, by Prime Minister Viottorio Emmanuele Orlando. Shortly after the completion of the Great Union, Dr C. Angelescu returned to Romania, and on 12th December 1918, he entered the cabinet chaired by Ion I.C. Brătianu as Minister of Religious Affairs and Public Instruction. The high school was founded in the fall of 1902, continuing the tradition of the oldest crafts school, even if it underwent a series of transformations over time. The Higher School of Arts and Crafts functioned in the old premises of today's school, which after 33 years was transformed into Second Degree Crafts School in 1935. In 1936, the old institution became "Dr. Constantin Angelescu" Industrial High School for Boys, during which two pavilions with classrooms and workshops were built. Not denying the traditions of the old crafts school, the newly established high school quickly established itself among the secondary schools in the city, being declared the best industrial high school in the country. After the Education Reform of 1948, it was transformed into the Secondary School of Mechanics, maintaining its profiles and crafts. In 1950, the school went through a period of transition, training personnel for the metallurgical industry and mechanics and energy enterprises. The high school operates between 1954-1955 as an Agricultural School Centre, with the aim of training staff for agriculture and food industry. In 1955 it becomes Agricultural School Group that operates until 1966, when the high school also comes into being. Between 1972-1990 it operates as Industrial High School No. 2 training students for agriculture, food industry, forestry and transport. After the Revolution of December 1989, it became Agricultural School Group again, maintaining its profiles, trades and specializations. The standards of professional qualification, the promoted value system, the particular predilection for culture and intercultural openness, motivate the granting in 2000 of the title of "Dr. Constantin Angelescu" Agricultural High School.
