THE NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS' MILITARY CIRCLE (TODAY THE BUZĂU MILITARY RESTAURANT)
The Non-Commissioned Officers' Military Circle was established in the Buzău garrison in 1921, with the aim of strengthening, by all moral and legal means the bonds of cordial camaraderie between non-commissioned officers of all arms and categories, to maintain physical vigor through sports, to enrich their professional and general knowledge through culture and education, and to stimulate and elevate their sentiment of personal dignity and military prestige.
Initially, the seat of the Non-Commissioned Officers' Military Circle was in the building of the Military Circle of Officers, in Carol Street, today's Independenţei Street, near the "Mihai Eminescu" National College. In 1935 it obtained legal personality, and in 1936 it purchased the current premises in Gării Boulevard (formerly Elisabeta Doamna Boulevard), no. 7. The building was built in 1914 and had 10 rooms, outbuildings and 245 square meters of land.
In 1986, the Military Restaurant Buzău was opened in this building, one of the most refined restaurants in the city.
"At the entrance, a summer garden opened, with an alley in the middle, on either side of which there were tables covered with white damask tablecloths. Beside each table was an accordion-like pleated lantern that gave off an evening light similar to those on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu.
As soon as you entered the restaurant, you could choose one of the intimate booths on the left and right side of the main hall, or choose a table in such a way that you could also see the band perched in a loggia with arches and marble pillars.
The staff was top class and the menu was so extensive that it was impossible not to find what you wanted.
Because the tables and chairs were impeccably decorated, it was said to be the first restaurant where the chairs also wear a uniform. Access was allowed to both military personnel and civilians."
