PAINTER ION ANDREESCU HOUSE
Ion Andreescu (1850-1882) was a student of the National School of Belle Art, led by Theodor Aman. He continued his studies in Paris, where he joined the group from Barbizon, being influenced by the Impressionists, but differing from them by the solid construction of the forms and by the sober chromatics, with serious tonalities.
On 7th May 1872, after winning a competition, he was appointed titular master of the drawing and calligraphy department at the Theological Seminary in Buzău, later being transferred to „Al. Hâjdeu” High School of Buzău, where he taught the same subject between 1873-1878. A keen observer of the surrounding realities, he created memorable works with themes and elements related to the Buzău area, managing to reproduce in his canvases real historical documents: the motley bustle of the former fair, images of the surrounding villages (landscapes of the fair and Crâng, portraits, vases with flowers), the period in Buzău representing the moment of his maturity as a man and artist. Among the paintings made in Buzău, we mention: Shepherd with sheep, House in the orchard, House of the sieve maker, Houses in the winter, Edge of the village, Fair near Buzău (Drăgaica), Winter in the forest, Leafless forest, which allow us to identify life with his artistic creation. He had a great future, but he died prematurely, at the age of only 33. The house where he lived in Buzău, located on Tudor Vladimirescu street, no. 23, is classified as a historical monument.
