NICOLAE SECELEANU HOUSE
The family of the great merchant and landlord Nicolae Seceleanu (1829 – 1911), whose daughter, Eliza, married the lawyer Petre Stănescu, who would die shortly, lived in this house, dating from the end of the 19th century. In 1905, Eliza Stănescu (Seceleanu) commissioned the young sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi, who was studying in Paris, a funerary monument in memory of her husband. Between 26th May and 17th July 1914, Brâncuşi came to Buzău and carved in Măgura stone the two plinths for „Prayer” and „Bust of Petre Stănescu”, works of art that were first exhibited in Paris, and in 1914 they were placed in Dumbrava Cemetery of Buzău. Today, in the recently restored Seceleanu house, Buzău County School Inspectorate carries out its activity.
