GENERAL ION VERNESCU HOUSE
General Ion Vernescu was born in Buzău, on 13th February 1868. After graduating from the Military School of Artillery and Engineering, he held various positions within the artillery units, successively becoming commander of the 2nd Artillery Regiment, the 1st Heavy Artillery Brigade, and the Territorial Command of the 5th Army Corps and director of the Artillery Directorate within Ministry of War. In 1903 he was seconded for a staff internship in the Austro-Hungarian army. He took part in the Bulgarian Campaign in 1913. During the War of National Integration (1916 – 1919), he was commander of the 1st Heavy Artillery Brigade, chief of staff and head of the Artillery Service at the 1st Army Corps and, from 7th June 1918, commander of the 5th Infantry Division. He took part in Flămânda Operation, Battle of Bucharest and Battle of Marăşeşti. After the war, he held several offices in the higher ranks of the army, the most important being the commander of the 3rd Army Corps. He was placed in reserve on 1st October 1929. He was decorated with the Order of the Crown of Romania in the rank of commander (1912), the Star of Romania in the rank of officer (1913), the Medal of Courage and Faith with „Campaign of 1913” (1913) and the Cross of Sanitary Merit (1913) awards. He was married to Ana Bolintineanu. He died on 2nd December 1935.
