GENERAL DINU RĀTESCU HOUSE
General Dinu Rătescu was born on 27th June 1898, in Buzău, as the son of Colonel Gheorghe Rătescu, from the 7th Buzău Artillery Regiment, who fell in the War of National Integration (1916 – 1919). He graduated in 1916 from the Cavalry Officers’ School and participated with the 6th Călăraşi Regiment in the campaigns of the First World War, which is why, on 20th April 1918, he was decorated with the Order of the Crown of Romania in the rank of Knight, with a ribbon of Military Virtue. After the war he worked in the Cavalry Preschool, after which he was transferred to the Royal Escort Regiment. In 1925, he did an internship in the Polish 14th Uhlans Regiment, also fulfilling the task of diplomatic courier of the Romanian Legation in Warsaw. In 1936 he was appointed commander of the 1st Squadron of the Royal Escort Regiment. He participated in the battles of the Second World War, in Bessarabia. He was injured and he was amputated a leg. He was decorated in 1942 with the Order of Star of Romania and appointed military commander of the Capital. On 7th May 1943, he was decorated with the Order of the Crown of Romania in the rank of knight. In the same year he was appointed director of the Military Museum, and in 1946 he was promoted to general and dismissed, and on 9th August 1947 he was paced in reserve. He died in 1978, in Buzău.
