Colonel (later General) Alexandru Nicolici (1892 – 1953) graduated from „Matei Basarab” High School of Bucharest, War Academy and Faculty of Law of Bucharest. He was the commander of the 7th Buzău Artillery Regiment between 1939-1944, and in August 1944 during the retreat, he was promoted to general and commander of the 8th Infantry Training Division. For his feats of arms in the East Campaign, he was decorated with the Order of the „Crown of Romania” and the German „Iron Cross”. Since he refused to take part in the West Campaign, he was placed in reserve. In the fall of 1944, he joined the National Peasant Party and he was appointed prefect of Buzău County (1st November – 10th December 1944; replaced by General Marinescu). He was arrested by the communist government in 1952 and died in 1953 in Poarta Albă labor colony. He was part of anti-communist organization „Pajura Neagră.”
