FRIEDERICH SCHÜLLER HOUSE
The first pharmacy in Buzău is attested in 1838, when the opening of the pharmacy "Vulturul de Aur" (meaning the Golden Eagle) was approved, later becoming "Vulturul Alb" (meaning the White Eagle). On the 11th of February 1858, the appearance of the second pharmacy was recorded in the city of Buzău, called "Holy Cross" or "Golden Cross", the first owner being Frederik Zurnner. Between 1871 and 1932 it belonged to Frederik Schuller and his descendants, and between 1932 and 1950 it belonged to Maria Gârniceanu.
Friederich Schüler (1844–1924) was born in Brașov and graduated from the University of Vienna with a master's degree in pharmacy. In 1867, following an exam, he was admitted to practice the profession of pharmacist in Romania.
Together with his brother Carl (Carol), also a master in pharmacy from the University of Vienna, he owned several pharmacies in Bucharest, Ploieşti and Buzău.
In Ploieşti, the pharmacist Friederich Schüler remained in the history of the city through his substantial contribution to the construction, in 1895, of the Municipal Hospital. In his memory, the Ploiești authorities decided that the hospital should bear his name. The building was renovated in the 1930s. The Schuller hospital, which for a long time was one of the largest in Prahova county, is still functioning today, with the status of a municipal hospital.
