JAURES BENEA HOUSE
Jaures Benea (1911 – 1986), son of painter Matei Benea, graduated from Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu High School of Buzău and Faculty of Law of Bucharest. He worked as a lawyer in Buzău, then in Bucharest, where he pleaded in the trials of famous names: Ion Ioanid, Păstorel Teodoreanu, Constantin Noica, Nicolae Steinhart, Marieta Sadova. He pleaded in Noica/Pillat trial, in 1960, and in the trial of the so-called saboteurs from the Danube-Black Sea Canal. Thus, taking the defense of some enemies of the people in the most important political trials of the communist period, he gained a real reputation, a fact for which he was often detained by the Securitate, and his estate in Verneşti and the house in Buzău were confiscated. Until his retirement, in 1975, he was a real pedagogue for young lawyers, and his figure was praised by his clients.
