THE MONUMENT „BUZĂU, CITY OF ROMANIAN AVIATION AND MILITARY PARACHUTING”
Following the proposals of Buzău Development Council (in which 40 citizens of the city were invited to participate in the elaboration of a development strategy of the city for the next 12 years) and the Romanian Association for Propaganda and History of Aeronautics – Buzău Branch, the brand „Buzău – city of Romanian aviation and military parachuting” was implemented and a monument dedicated to them was created. It was envisaged: The concerns of Buzau citizens born in the city or county of Buzău, as pioneers of aeronautical construction; training through the „Aurel Vlaicu” Air Force Application School and „Traian Vuia” Air Force Military School of Military Masters and Non-Commissioned Officers in historic Ziliștea-Boboc, respectively in „Major General Grigore Baștan” Training Center for Special Operations; the flying fields; the modelling associations and clubs; aviators, paratroopers and sportsmen practising modelling. With highly qualified teaching staff, dedicated to these elite professions in Romania, the following took flight: the heroes of the Second Balkan War and the War of National Reunification, the aces of height, speed, distance and duration records and of the great interwar air raids, the daredevils of low altitude aerobatics, the fearless fighters who fought with great professionalism and patriotism, in the Second World War, the main air forces in the world, the military and civilian aviators and paratroopers who today do honour to the Romanian state in international missions, together with the partners of the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as the athletes who have brought in time almost 80% of the medals of the Romanian Modelling Federation, being all dedicated to the golden dream of mankind – the flight. Following the discussions, the Lycoming (L) – 39 Albatros ZA aircraft was chosen for the exhibition, as it made history in the Romanian Air Force, dozens of generations of pilots having been trained on it and having flown it and still flying it in the Romanian Army and in public or private companies.
The project managers were commanders (res.) Dr Marius-Adrian Nicoară and Dr. Alfred Vasilescu, the design was made by engineer Cristian Ianculescu, and a particularly important role in the realization of the monument was played by the Air Base for Instructing and Training of Aeronautical Personnel, Air Fleet Commander General Ovidiu Bălan. The placement works were carried out by Urbis Serv, the town hall company. The monument was erected as part of the programme celebrating the Centenary of the Great Union, and was inaugurated on Friday, 19th July 2019, on the eve of the anniversary of the Romanian Air Force.
