"ASCENSION OF JESUS" AND "THREE HOLY HIERARCHS" ARCHDIOCESAN CATHEDRAL
CHURCH
"Ascension of Jesus" and "Three Holy Hierarchs" Archdiocesan Cathedral is the most important place of worship in the Archdiocese of Buzău and Vrancea. It was built between 2002-2009. The church is in the shape of a cross and it is traditionally divided into narthex, nave and holy altar. The painting was done in fresco technique by the painter priest Petre Brașoveanu from Buzău and his apprentices. The consecration service of this church was officiated on 8th November 2009 by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, together with numerous hierarchs, priests and deacons, in the presence of over 10,000 believers. The consecration took place at the same time with the religious ceremony for raising the Diocese of Buzău and Vrancea to the rank of Archdiocese. On 27th March 2011, the shrine with the vestment with which the relics of Saint Teodosie of Brazi Monastery were clothed and a small part of his relics were placed in this new church, to which parts of the holy relics of Saint Hierarch Nectarios of Aegina and of other saints were later added. In the courtyard of the archdiocesan cathedral, a holy-water font was erected in 2013, where the Great Blessing of Water is celebrated on the feast of the Baptism of Jesus.
