MUNICIPAL POLICE HEADQUARTERS
The first Court in Buzău County was established in 1831, and in 1853 it received the title of Buzău County Court. Until 1912, it operated in the building on Ghiță Dăscălescu Street (today Libertăţii Street), on the corner of Plevnei Street. After 1912, it was moved to the new premises, called the Palace of Justice, built according to the plans of the architect Petre Antonescu, who was from Buzău.
The Buzău Gendarmerie, the County Technical Service, the County Veterinarian, the Buzău County School Inspectorate, the Market Command and the Buzău Consumer Cooperative also functioned in this set of buildings.
Through the Royal Office of April 3rd, 1850, given by ruler Grigore Alexandru Ghica, the Corps of Servants was transformed into the Corps of Gendarmes, having the role of preserving public order and tranquility. On the 1st of April 1895, a rural gendarme company was established in Buzău. The Buzău Gendarmerie Company had a force of 38 gendarmes, divided into 3 platoons (at Pătârlagele, Mizil and Pogoanele). Captain Ion Păulescu was the first commander of the Buzău gendarmes.
In 1913, Buzău gendarmes were mobilized and participated in the Second Balkan War, south of the Danube. They also participated and performed specific missions in the War of National Integration, between 1916-1919. On the 1st of April 1929, through the new law on the organization of the Gendarmerie, the name of the company changed to Legion. During the Second World War, the troops of the Buzău Gendarmerie Legion were assigned for missions on the Eastern Front and on the national territory.
In 1948, the General Directorate of People's Security was established, which took over the duties of the Gendarmerie.
After 1990, the buildings were assigned to the Buzău Municipal Police.
