„THE STOVE”
The artist Florin Codre was born in 1943 in Brașov and graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in 1970. He was a pupil of the great sculptor Boris Caragea. In 1975 he won the competition for the statue of Avram Iancu in Târgu Mureș, placed in front of the Orthodox Cathedral. He is the author of the equestrian statue of King Carol I, rebuilt and reinstalled in Palace Square of Bucharest, in front of the University Library (the original statue of King Carol I, the work of the Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovici in 1939, was demolished by the communist regime installed after 1945, as were the other two monumental works by the same artist, the statues of Ferdinand I and Ion I. C. Brătianu). Florin Codre has been awarded several times by the Union of Fine Artists. He has exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions in the country and abroad. According to specialists, the artist belongs to the generation of sculptors who develop the poetics of Brâncuși from a minimalist perspective. He participated in the 1971 and 1974 editions of the sculpture camp of Măgura, Buzău county, with his works Homage to Tudor and Tudor’s Fountains. The work was created in 1972.
